P005 → Pialassa-Fragments from the Wetlands (2021-2022)

“Pialassa,” from the Italian dialect of Ravenna, means “take and let go” and refers to the marshy areas between the city and coast, shaped by tidal movements. This project explores the role of these wetlands, which are increasingly affected by rising sea levels.

Through spatial practices, tool-making, and storytelling, it examines how to inhabit and adapt to these changing waterscapes while reflecting on issues of overproduction and consumption and the implication on the environments we inhabit.
Research conducted from 2021 to 2022 included building a floating research hut, which was used as a exploration vessel from which filming, making, writing were carried out as a reflection on the possibility of adapting marshalnd tradition to contemporary times .

The project aims to reconnect with the Pialassa, explore water’s evolving role, and rethink environmental and socio-economic models in the age of rising sea levels. The project was presented as a spatial installa- tion for several exhibitions and the footage was used for a short film for the exhibition ‘ITALY: A New Collective Landscape’.
