P002 → Saline Dimension: Meals from a Salt-Burnt Ground
with Gaia D’Arrigo (2024)
“Saline Dimensions: Meals from a Salt-Burnt Ground” is an interdisciplinary project addressing soil salinization in the Netherlands and its impact on agriculture. It combines material experimentation, speculative storytelling, and culinary experiences to explore how salt affected landscapes and water scarcity influence crop growth and ecological balance.
By using food and shared dining as narrative tools, the project aims to make complex environmental issues more intuitive and relatable. It seeks to understand and adapt to the challenges of saline agriculture and its implications for food production and consumption, fostering reflec- tion on our environmental and agricultural practices through participatory and artistic methods. This project involves the partnership of Giulia Bellinetti, Coordinator of the Nature Research department and runner of the Future Materials Lab at Jan Van Eyck, and Marente Van Der Valk, Coordinator of the Food Lab at Jan Van Eyck Academie. The first dinners were implented thanks to the support of the Design Start Grant by Stimuleringsfonds.
